Mike Huckabee is a Dangerous Theocrat

I'm going to give Mike Huckabee the benefit of the doubt and assume that his statement in this video about how he'd like every American to be forced at gunpoint to listen to Christian extremist David Barton was not completely serious. But since Huckabee repeatedly praised Barton, it is important that we ask the question of who this David Barton fellow is if we want to understand Huckabee.

Barton comes out of the Texas Christian right and GOP. Despite having no qualifications or credentials, Barton is a self-described expert on the sort of revisionist history that teaches that America is a Christian nation that should be governed by biblical law. He was handpicked by Glenn Beck to teach this revisionist history at Beck's absurd TV "university."

That Huckabee would heap such praise on Barton strongly suggests that Huckabee agrees with him. Despite the stubborn refusal of the mainstream American news media to acknowledge that Huckabee himself is a Christian extremist, he has been fairly clear about what he believes. If there is any possibility of him running for President again, those of us who value science, reason, religious freedom, and the like had better be ready to oppose him. Not only does he deny evolution and embrace his anti-science position, but he has made it clear that he wants the opportunity to impose his will on our country.
