Feeling Gustav's Early Effects

There is no way I am not going to lose power today, so I want to try to get this out while I can. It is not quite dawn, but there is enough light out for me to see the trees thrashing in the wind and the rain pouring down. From what I've been able to gather, Hurricane Gustav is expected to make landfall in Louisiana within the next couple hours. My area will likely be spared the brunt of the storm, as we are being told to prepare for sustained winds of around 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, heavy rain, likely power outages, and the possibility of flash flooding and tornadoes. Coastal Mississippi will have it worse, and coastal Louisiana will take the direct hit.

I hope that everyone in the affected region stays safe and that the levees in New Orleans manage to withstand the storm surge. Nobody needs a repeat of Katrina. Believe it or not, there are still people living in FEMA trailers a full three years after Katrina!

I'll update as I can.
