Amazon is set to release the new Kindle 3 on August 27, and it is now available for pre-order. Early reviews are making it sound pretty impressive. There are now two models: one with
wi-fi only
($139) and one with both
wi-fi and free 3G
($189). Both are slightly more compact and lighter weight than the second generation device but have double the storage capacity, better contrast screens, longer-lasting batteries, and have been described as a bit faster (see
Yahoo! News). Many of the changes seem fairly minor, but reviewers familiar with the previous generation have been quite
positive about their implementation. I'm glad I waited.
