Image by Colin Purrington via FlickrThe Texas State Board of Education has rejected efforts by Christian extremists to require that "weaknesses" in the theory of evolution be taught in science classes. The scary thing is just how close this ended up being. The board tied at 7-7 on the motion, resulting in the upholding of a prior decision to remove the strengths-and-weaknesses rule in the new curriculum standards. Texas is one of the largest buyers of textbooks in the U.S., meaning that what happens there influences what is available to other states.
